Farming in Texas

Texas leads the United States in cattle, cotton, sheep, goat, and total farm operation count. The High Plains around Lubbock, Plainview, and Amarillo produce the state's largest cotton, corn, and wheat acreage alongside the feedlot economy. The Rio Grande Valley adds citrus, vegetables, and sugarcane through Hidalgo, Cameron, and Willacy counties. East Texas supports rice, soybean, and poultry. Central Texas Hill Country runs cattle, sheep, and goat operations. The Coastal Bend produces cotton, sorghum, and the Gulf Coast rice country anchors a diverse farming economy.

Tractor donations from Texas reflect the state's enormous scale and crop diversity. John Deere combines and Case IH cotton pickers from the High Plains come in routinely. New Holland sugarcane harvesters and large tractors from the Rio Grande Valley accepted. Massey Ferguson and Ford tractors from Hill Country cattle operations are common. John Deere and Case IH row crop tractors from East Texas and the Coastal Bend regularly donated. Vintage Farmall, Allis-Chalmers, Oliver, and Minneapolis-Moline tractors from Texas farming heritage accepted on the same terms as modern equipment.
